REACT Forges Key Nonprofit Alliances
by Rick Christ November 6, 2000 - Washington, DC - Two issues ago I mentioned Relief Interactive, or REACT for short. They are creating the web-based link between online news services and charities that serve disaster victims worldwide. The result will be a huge gain in online "impulse" giving to the charities that are on the ground and helping at famines, earthquakes, floods and war zones around the world. They've gotten a large web developer to donate the development of the site, and have just signed Action Against Hunger, US Fund for UNHCR, Mercy-USA and American Jewish World Service as participating charities. My congratulations not only to the bright and dedicated people at REACT (a nonprofit), but also to the people at these four charities who had the courage to make a decision in only a few weeks. Recently, at an NSFRE panel in Washington, I mentioned that one of the problems in nonprofits' use of the Internet was the disconnect between the web people who tend to say, "We can get that up online by tomorrow." and the nonprofit people who tend to say, "At our next quarterly Board meeting, we hope to create a committee to study this." I'm so glad these four charities have been so daring. | |
