Award for Outstanding Achievement in Internet Fundraising
The Association of Fundraising Professionals seeks to honor those organizations that have harnessed the power of the Internet to enhance their fundraising operations. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Internet Fundraising will recognize organizations that demonstrate excellence in using the Internet and related technologies (e.g., email) to accomplish the following: • Engage Internet users with user-driven interfaces and features and functionality designed to attract users and encourage them to make donations and/or take other valuable actions. • Communicate with, convert and retain users through interactive offerings, services, resources, and other innovative methods designed to build relationships using technology. • Demonstrate innovative uses of technology in creating new fundraising tools, programs and models in support of mission and programs. • Enable e-commerce transactions and other interactions with users to be completed online in an expeditious and convenient manner with appropriate privacy and security standards in place. Eligibility Any tax exempt nonprofit organization that solicits charitable contributions on the Internet is eligible to participate in the awards program. Deadline for submission is September 15, 2004. The wining nomination will be honored at AFP's International Conference on Fundraising. Criteria 1) Content and Presentation: Website designs should be easy-to-use, with information logically and compellingly presented. Navigation and hyperlinks should be used effectively to help users move efficiently within the site. All pages should be clearly branded and identifiable as belonging to a particular site and section. The case for support and/or community involvement should be compelling and clearly and attractively presented. 2) Relationship Building: Special consideration will be given to innovative uses of technology that create, sustain or build relationships with users, including personalized and customized content, email communications and other "eCRM" measures, e.g., integrated donor services using the Internet and the phone. 3) Innovation in Internet-based Fundraising Approaches: Sites that demonstrate new ideas or approaches in Internet-based fundraising or those that demonstrate particularly strong executions of existing ideas will be given preference. 4) Fundraising Effectiveness/Return on Investment: Websites that make a significant financial and/or other measurable impact to an organization's fundraising efforts, either through new funds raised, new donors, number of hits on the site, or other specified measure. Demonstrable results/outcomes based on investment and return should be provided. 5) Technical Proficiency and Reliability: Technical execution is highly reliable and efficient. For example, for website efforts, download times are minimized and there is rapid server response. 6) Security and Privacy: Website provides effective and active security for online communications and transactions. Organization posts and uses comprehensive privacy policy (including notification, choice, security and access standards) that is easily found on the website.
