NetValue October Key Findings: Senior Surfers are Active Internet Users
(From NetValue.com press release) While those 65 & older are only 4.6% of the online population in the US, what they lack in size they make up for in Internet activity, according to Internet measurement company NetValue. In October 2000, seniors surfed the web for an average of 14.7 days, more than any other age group. During this time, the average senior visited more than 74 unique domains, viewed more than 500 unique pages and clicked on an average of 1.8 banners. 57.7% of seniors online visited Yahoo.com in October, making it the most popular site among seniors. But the Publishers Clearing House site (pch.com) has the highest affinity with the senior market. NPA comment: Seniors are an important component to most nonprofits' fundraising plans. While the web has been touted as a way for nonprofits to attract newer and younger donors, the web's ability to attract and serve a nonprofit's core constituency of seniors is key to short-term success. However, a nonprofit must pay attention to the needs and desires of seniors online to be successful with this market. January 2001 (updated March 2002) | |
